Liverpool vs Everton LIVE!

Mohamed Salah scored twice to lift Liverpool to a 2-0 Premier League victory over 10-man Everton in Saturday's Merseyside derby at Anfield, after Ashley Young was sent off for the visitors in the first half.

Salah slotted home a penalty past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford to break the deadlock in the 75th minute after Michael Keane was penalised for a handball, then doubled Liverpool's advantage deep in stoppage time. Juergen Klopp's side provisionally climbed top of the standings on 20 points in the Premier League's first game of the weekend, while Everton are 16th.

Sean Dyche's side, who have just one victory in their last 29 clashes with Liverpool, did well to keep their rivals at bay for much of the game after Young was sent off in the 37th minute with his second yellow card for a mistimed tackle on Luis Diaz. PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!

14:03 , Alex Young

73min: VAR agree this time! Keane has his arm outstretched as Diaz's cross hits it. Stonewall.

14:01 , Alex Young

71min: Poor big penalty appeals from Liverpool as Patterson looks to take out Diaz inside the area. But VAR again not having it.

13:57 , Alex Young

67min: Klopp quickly replaces Konate with Matip, which is all you need to know.

13:55 , Alex Young

65min: Oh my, how has Konate not been sent off?! He's tripped Beto while already on a booking.

He is very, very lucky.

13:52 , Alex Young

62min: Nunez and Elliott at on, with Gravenberch and Tsimikas off.

13:50 , Alex Young

61min: Beto is on for Calvert-Lewin. Liverpool looking to make changes too.

13:49 , Alex Young

59min: It's just not quite falling for Salah at the moment. He tries to take a touch on the turn inside the area, but his control is sloppy... and he is offside anyway.

13:47 , Alex Young

56min: A pause in play as Onana tumbles over the advertising boards while competing with Diaz. He looks OK to continue but that could have been nasty.

13:43 , Alex Young

53min: Half-hearted penalty shouts from Liverpool as a deflected shot hits an Everton arm inside the area. VAR take a look and dismiss it. Correct decision.

13:42 , Alex Young

52min: Salah again looks certain to score as ball falls to the main man inside the area but Tarkowski throws himself in front of the shot.

13:40 , Alex Young

49min: Konate into the book for dragging back Onana. Bit of a sluggish restart from Liverpool.

Second half!

13:35 , Alex Young

45min: Back underway!

Keane and Patterson are on for Harrison and McNeil.

13:33 , Alex Young

You would imagine Klopp will want more urgency from his players in the second half. They have also been a tad sloppy in possession.

Everton will be as tight as possible but there will be gaps to exploit now they are down to 10.

Second half coming up.

13:22 , Alex Young

Still goalless at the break but Liverpool will be confident of seeing this one out after Ashley Young's red card.

An entertaining opening 45 minutes.

Half-time!

13:19 , Alex Young

48min: That's your lot for the first time. Jota thought he had won a penalty right before the whistle after a tackle by Doucoure, but the ref wasn't having it.

13:16 , Alex Young

46min: Two minutes added on.

13:15 , Alex Young

44min: Another Liverpool corner, which Diaz looks to throw himself at but Onana clears well. It comes back in and there's Onana again to head clear. This time Alexander-Arnold tries his luck from distance and guess who is there with the block.

13:14 , Alex Young

42min: So close! Alexander-Arnold fizzes a superb ball across goal but Salah just can't reach enough to convert.

13:12 , Alex Young

39min: Van Dijk almost with the breakthrough when climbing highest at a corner. Liverpool really pushing now, of course. Everton need to hang on.

Red card!

13:09 , Alex Young

37min: Young is off! It's a second yellow for the defender for a rash tackle on Diaz. He can't have too many complaints about that.

13:08 , Alex Young

36min: That Mac Allister shot has woken Liverpool up somewhat. Seconds later Salah nearly gets in with Pickford stranded

13:06 , Alex Young

34min: First save from Pickford as Mac Allister fires from distance, the goalkeeper fumbling at first but smothering at the second attempt.

13:05 , Alex Young

33min: The pace has slowed down somewhat at Anfield after quite a frantic opening 25 minutes or so.

13:03 , Alex Young

32min: Tarkowski into the book for going through the back of Gravenberch.

12:59 , Alex Young

27min: Surprised it took him this long, but Salah has his 'cut in from the right and bend a shot with his left' of the game, which sails over Pickford's bar.

12:55 , Alex Young

23min: He does fancy it... and it's straight into the Everton wall.

12:54 , Alex Young

22min: Now it's Liverpool's turn to win a free kick as Jota runs across the face of the penalty area and is tripped by Tarkowski. Will Trent want this?

12:52 , Alex Young

21min: Everton win a free kick after a sloppy foul by Tsimikas. It's around 40 yards out and floated towards the back post, but comes to nothing.

12:50 , Alex Young

18min: Everton are again caught short and Liverpool storm up the field, Salah releasing Diaz and is looking for the return through the middle... but Diaz's pass is not good enough and Onana is able to intercept.

12:49 , Alex Young

16min: Everton have certainly had their chances. Again Konate is forced to give away a corner after McNeill gets amongst it inside the area. It is floated in a Liverpool clear at the second attempt.

12:45 , Alex Young

13min: Everton do nothing with the corner, allowing Liverpool to storm up field first through Salah and then Diaz. The latter looks certain to score as he skips into the area, but is thwarted by a stunning last-gasp tackle from Young. Incredible.

12:44 , Alex Young

12min: It's been end to end, you cannot deny that. Calvert-Lewin forces Konate into giving away a corner.

12:40 , Alex Young

9min: Half an opening for Liverpool, who are really starting to build now, as Salah pokes a pass through to Diaz to run on to. Pickford stumbles as he races out to collect but still just about gets there.

12:39 , Alex Young

6min: Tsimikas' first chance to emulate Robertson as he whips a ball in from the left, and he does well as Alexander-Arnolds gets a head on it to force Pickford to punch clear.

12:35 , Alex Young

4min: Talk about chances, Salah looked certain to slam the ball past Pickford when spotted in space on the right of the area, but he gets his timings all wrong and shanks the ball. The offside flag saves his blushes.

12:33 , Alex Young

2min: The first chance falls to Everton as McNeill finds Calvert-Lewin inside the area, but his header is straight at Allison.

That's a chance, y'know! He was only about eight yards out.

Kick-off!

12:32 , Alex Young

1min: Here we go!

12:29 , Alex Young

'You'll Never Walk Alone' is belted out from the Kop and beyond. Some atmosphere on a cold October lunchtime.

12:26 , Alex Young

Here they come.

12:25 , Alex Young

It's almost time The players will soon be in the tunnel.

Klopp to TNT Sports

12:20 , Alex Young

"They are obviously three very good players who have shown up in the season. Everyone can see how important they are for us and will be.

"They are not new to each other any more. They like each other, you can see that off the pitch. It's not only about the midfield but it is one of the most important areas on the pitch.

"We have to win - I don't know how many second balls - but also set-pieces and all these kinds of things.

"Everton are in a good moment with a clear structure and will go for it. We will go for it too."

Gravenberch wants a fry up

12:11 , Alex Young

As we wait to hear from Jurgen Klopp, here are Ryan Gravenberch's pre-match thoughts from the matchday programme.

"I haven't been outside in the city a lot because we have a lot of games," he writes.

"I haven't tried much British food yet but I will have to try - maybe fish and chips or the breakfasts with lots of beans. What do you call it? A fry-up?"

Yes, it's called a fry up.

Dyche to TNT Sports

12:02 , Alex Young

"I've only had one [derby] but it was a tremendous occasion. It's finding that automatic response for the team performance and that's what we're looking for.

"We felt the performances at the beginning of the season we're getting the results they deserved. We stuck to that task and you have got to keep performing.

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin getting fitter and sharper, Jack Harrison coming in off the back of an injury - we're getting that depth of fitness.

"I think you have to start right and defend well because they have a strong record. You need to make the game about yourselves as well and take it on. It's important we do that today.

"The feeling, the atmosphere, of course is all valid and relevant, but when you go out there it's all about the performance. [Victory] would reaffirm the good work we've been doing. I don't think the points tally is what it deserves."

It sounds like Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have not been passed fit to start today.

Kostas Tsimikas, as expected, is in for the injured Andy Robertson at left-back. Confirmed team news shortly.

Dyche on Liverpool

11:24 , Alex Young

While Everton manager Sean Dyche has acknowledged there is plenty of buzz around today's Merseyside derby against Liverpool, he said the Toffees will try to tune out the noise in their quest for a rare victory at Anfield.

"It's a tough place to go," Dyche told reporters on Thursday. "So, I don't think we'll be listening to the kind of the noise around it. We're trying not to anyway.

"But there is a lot of noise, rightly so, big game. It's more about our focus to get through that and concentrate on our performances ... the whistle blows, you're focusing on the teams, but the build-up, the feel around it, there's no two ways, it's a proper derby.

"I've played in a few and I've been around a few, but it's certainly the biggest one I know."

Klopp on Everton

11:12 , Alex Young

Liverpool currently sit fourth with 17 points, three behind Tottenham and Arsenal, and one off third-placed Manchester City.

They will be seeking a first league win in three games when they host 16th-placed Everton, who are three points above the relegation zone after two wins in their last three games.

"Everton deserve respect," Klopp yesterday. "(Dominic) Calvert-Lewin is back, real quality. (Abdoulaye) Doucoure, (Amadou) Onana, (Idrissa) Gueye, super experienced. Really good centre-halves and England's number one in goal (Jordan PIckford). A good team.

"They are used to the kind of game. I don't think we should make it too big for them, I think they are ready for it.

"The facts are Everton are in a good moment. Successfully stayed up and start was not easy but last few weeks they have results with performances."

Everton are making progress under Dyche but beating an in-form Liverpool at Anfield Is quite a daunting task for any team.

Liverpool to win 3-1.

Everton team news

10:49 , Alex Young

Everton have beaten Liverpool just once in the last 28 Merseyside derbies in all competitions so head to Anfield today with a tough record to counter.

Sean Dyche will get a boost with the return of Idrissa Gueye, who played for Senegal in a friendly against Cameroon on Monday, and is back fit after a heel injury kept him out of their win over Bournemouth in their last outing.

Captain Seamus Coleman returned to training but Dyche said he "needs time." Andre Gomes and Dele Alli remain out.

Liverpool team news

10:42 , Alex Young

Liverpool will be without Andy Robertson for the foreseeable after left-back suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty with Scotland, meaning Kostas Tsimikas should be set for an extended run in the side, starting today.

Diogo Jota is available again to Jurgen Klopp after suspension, but Curtis Jones remains out as he serves the second game of his three-match ban for the red card picked up against Tottenham.

There were question marks over Cody Gakpo's fitness, as he recovers from the knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines since that Tottenham match, but he was pictured in first-team training on Thursday and is in contention to be involved.

The derby comes too soon though for Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic, despite Klopp's hope that the pair would be available straight after the international break.

After starring for Uruguay in their win over Brazil on Wednesday, Darwin Nunez revealed he had been battling cramp by the end of the match and with a long journey back to Liverpool, Klopp could opt to start the striker on the bench.

Mohamed Salah will once again be the main man up front - he has scored or assisted in seven of Liverpool's eight Premier League matches so far this season.
