Liverpool vs Manchester United is ON - Reds issue statement after last-minute talks over snow fears
Liverpool vs Manchester United will go ahead as scheduled after a second meeting between Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group.
A Liverpool statement issued shortly before midday UK time said: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."
Heavy overnight snowfall in the North West of England had put the game in doubt, and an initial meeting between the Safety Advisory Group, which took place on Sunday morning, did not result in a final decision being taken.

The group agreed to reconvene a few hours later, with a view to taking a decision at around midday UK time, and that is exactly what happened, as Liverpool issued the above statement at 11:57am confirming the game would go ahead as planned.
The playing surface inside Anfield was never going to be an issue; it was the improved conditions outside the stadium that were crucial in the decision being taken to allow the game to go ahead.
Workers outside Anfield were pictured shovelling snow on Sunday morning in a bid to help ensure the area outside the stadium was as safe as possible for supporters to walk on.
Attention can now turn to matters on the pitch as the Reds aim for a victory that will move them eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners dropped were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton on Saturday night, and currently sit five points behind Arne Slot's men having played two game more than the league leader.
United, meanwhile, is languishing in 14th position in the Premier League table, 23 points off top spot having played a game more than Liverpool.
