Liverpool's best and worst routes to the Champions League final and possible opponents
Liverpool’s path to the Champions League final has been mapped out, and it could present some dream or nightmare scenarios.
The Reds now know who they will be facing in the last-16 after Friday’s draw in Nyon, with Paris Saint-Germain awaiting them. The first leg in France is set to take place on March 4 or 5, with the return leg at Anfield on March 11 or 12.
Liverpool of course booked its place in the last-16 after finishing top of the league phase, winning seven of its eight games along the way. That led to Arne Slot’s side avoiding the extra play-off round, which has seen some big names make an early exit.

Manchester City is among those to have gone out already, with Pep Guardiola’s side losing to Real Madrid this week. Juventus was another big casualty, losing to PSV Eindhoven, while AC Milan crashed out against Feyenoord and Atalanta suffered a shock defeat against Club Brugge.
There are still plenty of big teams remaining though, and Liverpool now knows what its path to the final may look like.
Last-16 draw in full
It's worth just going over the last-16 draw in full again. The first legs of these ties will be played on March 4 and 5, with the second legs taking place on March 11 and 12.
PSG vs Liverpool
Club Brugge vs Aston Villa
Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
PSV vs Arsenal
Benfica vs Barcelona
Borussia Dortmund vs Lille
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen
Feyenoord vs Inter Milan
The dream scenario
Liverpool would have perhaps preferred to have faced Benfica in the last-16, but there's no changing that now. In any case, being placed in the top half of the draw means the Reds could get a more desirable path to the final.
Should they overcome PSG, the Reds could face Club Brugge in the quarter-finals, while PSV Eindhoven - the only side to have beaten Liverpool in the Champions League this season - could lie in wait in the semi-finals.
It might be a long shot, but a reunion with Feyenoord in the final could then be on the cards for Slot. Alternatively, a meeting with Benfica might be considered the next best option in Munich.
The nightmare path
Liverpool was never likely to get things easy, but the draw has thrown up the potential for what could be a brutal run to the final.
Should the Reds beat PSG, then Aston Villa could provide their opponents in the quarter-finals. Unai Emery's side has already shown how big a threat it can be after this week's 2-2 draw at Villa Park.
Then, it Liverpool makes it to the semi-finals, it could face Arsenal, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, with any one of those providing a huge test in order to reach the final. Having been kept apart from Barcelona, a meeting with the Catalan club could eventually come in Munich, while Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen or Inter Milan would also provide difficult opposition in the final.
