Liverpool will defend their Carabao Cup crown at Wembley Stadium against Newcastle United after coming from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur. Goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk ensured they stylishly overturned a first-leg deficit against Ange Postecoglou's side to book a place in March's showpiece in the capital.

The Reds dominated their north London opponents and took the lead after 30 minutes when Dutchman Gakpo squeezed his volley home. Shortly after the restart, Salah threaded in Darwin Nunez who was brought down by Antonín Kinsky, and Salah stepped up to curl his penalty into the top corner.

Fifteen minutes from time, Szoboszlai got himself in on the act but, five minutes later, the Dutch skipper rubber-stamped their place in the final. Liverpool won a record-extending 10th League Cup accolade in their extra-time win over Chelsea. It was the last piece of silverware in Jurgen Klopp's trophy-laden tenure on Merseyside and for his successor, Arne Slot, the encounter with the Magpies poses his first opportunity to pick up a winners' medal.
