Starting the year with hardly anyone having any knowledge of Jurgen Klopp departing and ending it flying under his replacement Arne Slot, Liverpool knows that things can change quickly in just the space of a few weeks.

Will the next 12 months be as event-filled as the last? Things are certainly looking exciting under the new regime, with plenty of things to get excited about on the horizon, starting with a Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham.

Our Liverpool.com writers have named their Player To Watch for 2025. You can let us know your thoughts — and whether you agree with us — in the comments section below the story.

Matt Addison - Ryan Gravenberch

Liverpool needed someone to step up and play the number six role when Martin Zubimendi opted against a move to Anfield in the summer and Ryan Gravenberch has done that and then some. He's been up there as one of the best in that position in the world for the last few months and it is easy to forget he doesn't turn 23 until May.

Because he is so young and he hasn't played this new role that much so far, he could get even better in 2025. The longer he stays there, the better he should get to know it as long as he isn't overplayed. My only worry with Gravenberch is fatigue, with the sky the limit for his potential to grow if he remains as energetic as he has looked to date.

Honorable mentions go to Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott, Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate, but Gravenberch is my pick. If he carries on with his current trajectory, he might have solved the holding midfield problem Liverpool has toyed with for a few seasons.

James Findlater - Ibrahima Konate

Obviously most eyes will be on Mohamed Salah, but it does feel like Liverpool has just lost a little of its solid nature since Ibrahima Konate picked up his injury.

Hopefully it won’t be long before we see him back in action, and that partnership with Virgil van Dijk begins to flourish again. You could make a very real case for Liverpool having the best center-back pairing when the two of those are together.

There’s very little doubt that Liverpool has the attacking capabilities to win the title, but what could really set them apart from their rivals might be their ability to keep things tight at the other end. Konate is crucial to that, and hopefully he can keep a clean bill of health once he’s back.

Michael Plant - Mohamed Salah

This one is obvious, isn't it? Liverpool's Egyptian king is the man everyone will be watching - in the first half of 2025, at least!

The reasons why Salah is the player to watch are pretty obvious: he's the team's top scorer and creator-in-chief. Whether Liverpool wins, draws or loses tends to be decided by the performance of Salah, who, even for his impeccable standards, has really upped his levels this season.

But it will be fascinating to see what individual accolades and milestones he can achieve in the second half of the term. Can he earn another Premier League Golden Boot and equal Thierry Henry's all-time record? Will he manage to overtake Gordon Hodgson as Liverpool's third-highest all-time scorer? And just how many goals and assists will he end the campaign with - is it even possible to think about breaking the record of 47?

That's before we consider what team successes Salah might claim, plus what will happen with the pesky contract situation? There's a lot to look out for.
