Livingston relegated to Scottish Championship as dismal season compounded by Motherwell defeat

Livingston have been relegated to the Championship after defeat to Motherwell this afternoon.

The Lions have been suffering at the bottom of the Premiership for a number of months but manager David Martindale has always maintained a desire to fight to the death to beat the drop. Unfortunately for the club, a 4-1 loss at Fir Park to Stuart Kettlewell's Steelmen meant they were mathematically unable to survive and they'll play second-tier football next season.

There were hopes from those in West Lothian last weekend after they defeated their closest rivals in the league, Ross County, in front of their home support.

But the lead held by the Staggies after this afternoon's results - where they came back from a goal behind to beat Hibs in Dingwall - sits at 10 points with just three matches to go.
