Lonely Sam Allardyce spotted watching England smash Panama with a Big Mac

Sam Allardyce could have been managing England at the World Cup today, instead he watched it alone in his local pub.

Sacked from the job after one game, the 63-year-old has been videoed tucking into a Big Mac burger and watching Gareth Southgate’s side destroy Panama 6-1.

It would have been a bittersweet experience for the former boss, who would have been pleased to see England win but believes it should be him in charge in Russia.

His reign was cut short after just one game as a newspaper sting caught him talking about getting around FA rules for third party ownership of players and negotiating a £400k deal for a public speaking event, subject to the FA’s approval.

He was sacked almost instantly and replaced by Southgate.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Allardyce said he was ‘jealous’ but would still watch England’s games.

“Jealous is what I feel,” he told the BBC. “Massively disappointed. That should be me there. Unfortunately because of the circumstances that wasn’t the case.

“One night I was playing golf – next day they said you can’t carry on. And I still don’t know why… because in the cold light of day, there was no substance, nothing behind it.

“If a bit more time was taken, a bit more patience, I believe I should still be the England manager.”

The former coach added: “I’ve bounced back now – and while I will be extremely jealous I will be watching Gareth and the lads and hope they do extremely well.”
