Watford Women roared back into life in 2025 with a comfortable 4-0 win away at Plymouth Argyle.

The victory lifts the Hornets to fourth in the National League South Premier Division table, and with two games in hand on a couple of the sides above them they could move as high as second.

The hosts have been struggling this season and the defeat drops them into the bottom two with Gwalia United leapfrogging them thanks a surprise 1-1 draw with third-placed Exeter City.

From the start of the game in the west country it was Watford who were on top, with Poppy Wilson and Coral Haines both forcing saves from Argyle keeper Lily Felgate before Flo Fyfe sent a shot narrowly wide.

The opening goal arrived after half an hour. Skipper Megan Chandler set Jessie Gale free and, when her shot came back off the upright, Ellie Head converted the rebound.

Keeper Felgate came to the home side’s rescue again when she kept out an Anna Filbey header, but she was beaten again right on the stroke of half-time.

It was Gale on target, this time stealing the ball in the home side’s half before rounding Felgate and tapping into the net.

Twenty minutes into the second half and Watford made it 3-0 thanks to a first goal back at the club for Bianca Baptiste.

Madison Perry found Clarabella Hall, she slid the ball through and Baptiste ran onto it before a slamming a shot past Felgate.

Two minutes later and it was 4-0, this time a sweet strike from the skipper as Chandler let fly from 30 yards and the ball nestled in the top corner.

Next Sunday (January 26), Watford host Lewes at Grosvenor Vale, kick off 2pm.
