Longelo linked with move to League Two promotion chasers
Swindon Town wide man Rosaire Longelo has reportedly attracted interest from League Two promotion challengers Salford City over a potential move.
As was first reported by The Moonraker, Karl Robinson’s side hold an interest in Longelo and could make a move for him prior to the deadline on February 3.
When asked by The Adver about the report, people close to the deal said that there has not been any bid from The Ammies yet but the interest is real and there is the potential for things to move quickly.
It is believed that the 25-year-old’s agent is currently up in the North West discussing the deal.
The former Newcastle United player arrived at Swindon in the summer after leaving Accrington Stanley, brought to The Nigel Eady County Ground by Jamie Russell who is now Academy Manager at Salford.
Injury has disrupted the versatile wideman's time in Wiltshire so far, limiting him to just six league starts and ten substitute appearances, although he did score his first goal for the club away at Bromley in late December.
He has also missed out on Swindon’s last two matchday squads due to swelling in his knee and suspension in the Vertu Trophy.
Longelo initially arrived at Swindon viewed as the starting left wing-back but Ian Holloway has found use for him as a right winger, a position which he came through academy football playing, and has been praised by the manager for his ability to impact games with his dribbling ability.
That kind of player is something Holloway has been searching for in this transfer window and before playing Colchester United on New Year’s Day said: “You also need someone who can actually run past someone to make someone else free.
“If you look at the last couple of games someone has managed to do that to us past two people.
“We have done that when Rosaire did it up in Wycombe, so what you need is some different types sometimes.”
Swindon have been hoping to move players out to create room in a bloated squad to bring more in and with interest in Town players being limited, this could be a move which helps them to do that.
The change in George Cox’s diagnosis meaning that he will not be out for the long-term along with the form of Billy Kirkman means that Town do have cover in the left-back position and continue to search for attacking reinforcements.
