Leeds United have been handed a fresh twist in their venture to sign Louie Barry.

The 21-year-old forward was recalled from his loan at Stockport County, returning to his parent club Aston Villa. There are now reports that the Premier League side are striving to get Barry on a new contract with the club.

Their plan would be to get Barry signed, and then potentially look for a new club for him to go out on loan. Sports journalist Pete O'Rourke said on X: "Celtic and a host of Championship clubs are keen on Barry following his impressive form on loan at Stockport."

One of the clubs said to be interested is Leeds. During Barry's cut-short loan spell at Stockport this season, he bagged 16 goals in 24 games. These stats are sure to light a spark in Daniel Farke as his team are lacking goals from the striker position.

A reinforcement on loan would also be very welcome after the recent departures of two future prospects. Young midfielder Charlie Crew has gone out to Doncaster Rovers on loan and striker Joe Gelhardt is on loan at Hull City.

Both these players had come up through the academy at Leeds. Gelhardt was unable to find any consistency in his matches whilst Crew is yet to solidify himself as a first-team player.

Elland Road could well be the place for Barry to make his mark as one of the most exciting young forwards outside the Premier League. It comes amid uncertainty over Patrick Bamford's future at Elland Road.

Barry has spent the majority of his professional career on loan away from Villa where he came up through the academy. The former West Bromwich Albion youth product returned to the Midlands after a spell at Barcelona where he played for their Under-19s.
