Louie Barry's future is likely to be decided in the next few weeks with a move to the EFL Championship reckoned to be on the horizon - with Leeds United among the clubs being linked with his signature.

Barry, 21, enjoyed an outstanding spell at Stockport County in the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring 15 goals in 23 League One games. That form saw the Aston Villa forward recalled by his parent club with a move higher up the footballing ladder now being touted.

The former Barcelona star is one of the hottest properties outside of the Premier League at present with a whole host of sides in England's second tier lining up for their chance to sign him this January. Leeds and Sheffield United had been rumoured, but it now looks like Barry could join Hull City.

Barry's form has drawn plenty of plaudits over recent weeks, including from Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman. With Derby County another possible destination, Goodman believes wherever the former Stockport loanee ends up, a team that dominates the ball would be a perfect fit for the talented youngster.

"Louie Barry needs to join a team which plays a possession-based game and a similar style to Stockport County," the EFL expert told Plejmo.com. "He's been linked with Derby County but, with all due respect to them, at this current time they wouldn't tick that box.

"That's not intended to be offensive, but if he can get game time at a team in the upper reaches of the Championship, he would be an asset to pretty much any of those teams. Ultimately, Aston Villa need to send him somewhere to play week-in-week out and a promotion charge would be a test I'm sure he would relish and thrive in."
