Louie Barry watches Celtic make their transfer move with opening seven-figure bid for Aston Villa starlet

Celtic are set to test Aston Villa’s resolve with an opening seven figure bid for Louie Barry.

The Scottish champions are keen on the 21-year-old, who has just been recalled from a loan spell at Stockport County, The English Premier League side has offered Barry a new deal but he has still to put pen to paper. Celtic’s recruitment team has flagged up Barry to Brendan Rodgers, who can play on the left or as a central striker. It remains to be seen if Villa will sell or if they will hold firm.

Villa would prefer Barry to sign a new deal and then they would put him out on loan to the English Championship, where Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are all interested. Barry is a Villa fan but has spent most of his time there out on loan with the likes of Ipswich Town, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford City and Stockport.

Celtic’s main priority in this window is to bring in a left-sided attacker. BK Hacken star Zeidane Inoussa is another who is on the radar.

The Hoops and the French outfit St Etienne have both scouted the Swedish under-21 star regularly in recent weeks. The Scottish champions have also held talks with a move for Norwegian under-21 star Sondre Orjasaeter and been linked to Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha , Hammarby’s Bazoumana Toure and Raul Moro of Real Valladolid.
