Former Wales star Louis Rees-Zammit has shared a cryptic message on social media as he continues to push for an opportunity with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.

The 23-year-old signed with the Jaguars in August after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs and now finds himself on the practice squad as a wide receiver. He made his return to the UK in October as his side played back-to-back games in London but, having only started playing the sport this year, is yet to make his debut for the Jaguars, with a promotion on to the active roster thought to be still some way off.

Rees-Zammit has been told by his coaches to be patient in continuing with his development and his opportunity will come. But as things have started to slow down for the Welshman after a whirlwind year, he has faced criticism from some quarters, with it being claimed that his move to the States has been a waste of time and talent and that he should have stuck with rugby instead.

But the former Gloucester wing has now seemingly hit back at those suggestions, as he shared a cryptic message on his Instagram account. Alongside an image of him arriving at the Jaguars' training camp, Rees-Zammit posted a message that read: "Trust the process. Great things take time."

In the caption, he simply added a lightning bolt emoji - a nod to his nickname 'Rees-Lightning' - and an hourglass emoji.

The Welshman received plenty of support in response to the post, with one fan writing: "The Jags need to start playing you, I hope to see you out on the field," while another added: "You got this!". A third supporter wrote: "I hope this means you're going to play this week or this season."

While Rees-Zammit is still waiting for his shot with the Jaguars, his coach Doug Pederson admitted earlier this year that he was impressed with the former rugby star's talents and said his chance will come if he "continues to work and embrace his role".

"Being on the practice squad, you never know, you are a play or two away from being elevated to the roster," said Pederson. "We love his skill set, his talent, his speed, his physicality. He's got great size,"

"Just learn, just continue to learn," he added when asked what Rees-Zammit had to do now. "And just be patient, [his] opportunity will come."
