LPGA forms search committee, that includes two major champions, to find next commissioner

The LPGA has formed the search committee that will work to hire the tour's 10th commissioner. The tour released the information, which was obtained by Golfweek, to players in late December.

Mollie Marcoux Samaan’s last official day with the LPGA is Jan. 9. Her tenure of 3 1/2 years is among the shortest stints for LPGA commissioners dating to 1975. Liz Moore, the LPGA's Chief Legal and Technology Officer and Corporate Secretary, will assume the role of Interim Commissioner.

The eight-person committee is made up entirely of current board members, with player directors Ashleigh Buhai, Stephanie Meadow and Stacy Lewis making up the current players on the committee. Lewis, a two-time major winner and former No. 1 who might have an interest in the job of commissioner sometime down the road, is currently part of the LET Joint Venture Board.

LPGA Player President Vicki Goetze-Ackerman, who was also on the search committee that hired Marcoux Samaan, is on it once more.

Louise Ball, who was recently elected to a three-year term as president of the LPGA Professionals division, joins three independent board directors serving on the committee. Those people include Michele Meyer-Shipp, Madi Kleiner and Board Chairman John Veihmeyer, who was also on the previous search committee that hired Marcoux Samaan, while serving as board chairman.

Veihmeyer, a retired global chairman of KPMG, also serves on the board of Ford Motor Company and is chair of Notre Dame’s Board of Trustees.

The tour, which celebrates 75 years this season, will next hire an executive search firm to help find its newest leader.
