Lucas Bergvall: Tottenham confirm transfer coup after late Deadline Day talks

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall after beating Barcelona to his signature.

The 17-year-old midfielder joins the club for around £8.5million on a five-year contract and will officially link up with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad this summer.

It is thought the initial fee could be increased by way of various add-ons.

Bergvall visited the club’s training ground on Monday and met with compatriot Dejan Kulusevski but then travelled to Barcelona as both clubs pushed hard to sign the highly-rated teenager.

Talks late into transfer deadline day, however, saw Spurs convince the Sweden international to opt for a move to north London, with the move officially announced on Friday evening.

Spurs were one of the more active clubs during an otherwise slow January transfer window, with former Chelsea forward Timo Werner joining on loan from RB Leipzig and Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin arriving from Genoa earlier this month.

Elsewhere on Deadline Day, young striker Alejo Veliz left Spurs to spend the rest of the season on loan with Sevilla in Spain.
