Ajax, not content with their first leg advantage, fired an early warning when Dusan Tadic forced a fine save from Hugo Lloris.

Spurs were instantly punished from the resultant corner as Matthijs de Ligt leapt higher than the Tottenham defence to head past a static Lloris to give them the lead on the night.

Tadic had the chance to extend the Ajax advantage on the half hour but his left-footed shot crept wide of the far post with Lloris beaten.

The Dutch side didn’t have to wait too long however as Hakim Ziyech made it 2-0 five minutes later, striking powerfully from just inside the area from Tadic’s clever pass.

Spurs knew they needed to change their approach and went more direct in the second half.

Tottenham finally found a breakthrough 10 minutes into the second half through Lucas Moura who slotted the ball past Onana after great work from Dele Alli.

Four minutes later, the North Londoners were level on the night as Moura pounced again to finish excellently following Onana’s point blank save from substitute Fernando Llorente.

Spurs knew their luck was in as a drilled Ziyech shot came back off the post with 10 minutes on the clock.

Following Liverpool’s win over Barcelona the previous night, another unbelievable comeback was complete as Moura sealed his hat-trick with a 95th minute winner to write his name into the history books.

As the final whistle blew, Tottenham players and staff raced onto the pitch to celebrate the biggest victory in the club’s recent history.

A tearful Pochettino embraced his players and will take his team to Spain looking to land Europe’s biggest prize for the first time the club’s history.
