Motherwell are looking to cement their place in the top six with the signing of Luke Armstrong.

Record Sport understands the Steelmen are in talks over a loan deal for the Carlisle United striker. The 28-year-old is also keen for the chance to move up to the Scottish Premiership for the second half of the campaign. Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell wants to land the former Middlesbrough and Salford frontman.

Armstrong has also had a spell at Harrogate as well as loans at Hartlepool and Accrington Stanley. He can also count Cowdenbeath as his first senior club. Armstrong had a short spell there in 2016 after he left the youth ranks of Birmingham City, then went on to have a free-scoring spell at Blyth Spartans before he moved up to the senior leagues in England. He could become 'Well's second January signing after the loan capture of 18-year-old midfielder Kai Andrews from Coventry City.
