Luke Littler could cap a whirlwind 12 months in the best possible way by sealing victory in tonight's PDC World Darts Championship final.

The 17-year-old took the world of darts by storm on the same stage at Alexandra Palace last year as he entered the tournament as a complete unknown and ended it as a superstar, having powered his way to the final by knocking out some of the biggest names in the game.

While he ultimately lost the final to Luke Humphries, Littler was catapulted to overnight fame and has continued his extraordinary run over the last year, winning the Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series Finals in 2024. Last month, he was also named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and narrowly missed out on the main award, finishing second behind Olympic gold medallist Keeley Hodgkinson.

In a complete reversal to last year's tournament, he started this year's competition as the hot favourite to lift the Sid Waddell trophy, with his odds shortening after World No.1 Humphries crashed out before the quarter-final stage. He is now one game away from becoming the youngest world champion in history, but will have to defeat three-time tournament winner Michael van Gerwen in order to achieve that.

Of course, it's not just the title or the record on the line, with the winner of tonight's final also taking home a huge £500,000 in prize money. Littler, of course, came close to that jackpot last year, but instead took home the £200,000 awarded to the runner-up.

Since then, the teenager has banked over £1.2 million through prize money and endorsement deals and has been tipped to become one of the highest earning players in the history of the sport. His net worth is reported to be in the region of £1 million and is set to soar even further, regardless of whether he wins tonight or not.

With such a healthy bank balance, Littler recently splashed out on a new luxury home for him and his family, as they moved from their modest £180,000 two-bed property in Warrington into the plush rented five-bedroom house on the town's Millionaire's Row

Costing £6,000 per month in rent - which reportedly also covers pool maintenance and a gardener - the three-storey house boasts an indoor swimming pool, large garden, home cinema and six bathrooms.

It has also has electronic gates and an elaborate CCTV security system, as well as a huge open plan kitchen and dining area and spacious patio.

However, the move has been questioned by former world champion Dennis Priestly, who believes the teenager could have spent his money more wisely rather than splashing out on the house.

"I don't know what advice he is getting," Priestly told The Sports Daily. "I was asked about his renting of a mansion at £6,000-a-month. I mean if he'd have come to me for some advice, I would have said if you want a mansion and that sort of life you're better off buying it.

"Having a mortgage is better than wasting £6,000 and getting nothing back for it. But that's his business. That's how I'd look at it because it's just £6,000-a-month thrown down the drain.

"£72,0000-a-year. That will keep him on his toes. He's got to keep earning away if he's laying that sort of money down."
