Luke Woolfenden signs new Town contract until 2027
Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract.
The 26-year-old, who was due to be out of contract this summer, had been the subject of interest from high-flying Championship club Sheffield United this month.
The contract, which runs until 2027, also includes an option for the club to extend that by a further 12 months.
Born and raised in Ipswich, the centre-back has made 206 appearances for his boyhood club, including eight starts in the Premier League this season.
It's been a rollercoaster journey for Woolfenden.
Paul Hurst loaned him out to Swindon in 2018 when the youngster felt he was ready to step into the first team.
Paul Lambert scoffed that 'three million doesn't even buy you a flake' when Sheffield United were linked with Woolfenden's signature back in 2020.
There was a time, the defender admits, where he wanted to 'be anywhere else but Ipswich' when cast aside by Paul Cook.
But he subsequently became a regular starter under Kieran McKenna and played a key role in the club securing back-to-back promotions in the Premier League.
“I’m proud of what I have achieved at the club and I’m so pleased to have signed a new deal,” Woolfenden told TownTV.
“The last two years have been amazing. I’m just loving every minute.”
