Luton vs Man City LIVE! FA Cup match result, match stream and latest updates today

Erling Haaland roared back to his best form with a five-goal salvo as Manchester City thumped Luton Town 6-2 at Kenilworth Road to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

Luton had no answer to the marauding Norwegian who bagged his eighth City hat-trick before halftime and then scored twice more after the break to kill off a stirring Luton revival.

The 23-year-old Haaland's first four goals were all created by Kevin De Bruyne. Mateo Kovacic also got on the scoresheet for holders City who are unbeaten in 18 games in all competitions.

Luton did threaten an unlikely comeback when Jordan Clark found the top corner with a sublime effort on the stroke of halftime and netted again early in the second half to make it 3-2. But a strong City side instantly found another gear to cruise into the hat for the last eight.

The only blemish for City, who face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, was an injury to Jack Grealish who was forced off in the opening period.

Haaland fires fitness warning at Man City rivals after five-goal haul

22:27 , Jonathan Gorrie

Erling Haaland fired out a warning to Manchester City’s Premier League title rivals after scoring five goals against Luton on Tuesday night.

The striker’s haul saw the holders muscle past the Hatters after an eventful fifth-round clash at Kenilworth Road. Kevin De Bruyne laid on four assists for the Norway international, with Mateo Kovacic scoring City’s sixth goal of the evening.

Haaland has been criticised in recent weeks, particularly for missing a hatful of chances against Chelsea earlier this month.

Pep Guardiola fires warning to Man City rivals ahead of 'decisive' run of fixtures

18:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

Pep Guardiola has declared his Manchester City side are relishing the “decisive part of the season” as they compete on three fronts.

After a treble-winning season last term, City are still in the hunt to repeat that success. They sit just one point off Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, and are in control of their last-16 tie in the Champions League against Copenhagen ahead of the second leg in Manchester.

The focus for now though is on the FA Cup, with City travelling to face Luton on Tuesday night for a place in the quarter-finals.

Guardiola’s side are on a 17-match unbeaten and have once again hit their stride as the business end of the season looms.

As well as their cup fixtures, City face title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal in March, as well as a Manchester derby and a trip to Brighton.

"Next month helps us to still have another month,” Guardiola said.

“It will define if we have another month to play for the titles. It doesn't define anything.”

Pep Guardiola hailed the “world class” Phil Foden after sealing Manchester City’s win over Bournemouth.

Foden's ninth league goal of the season secured the unconvincing 1-0 win that pushed champions City to one point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Luton vs Man City: Are there replays in the fifth round?

17:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

The fifth round of the FA Cup continues tonight, as teams look to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Holders Manchester City are in action as they travel to face Luton, while Bournemouth host Leicester and Blackburn will be eyeing a cup upset as they welcome Newcastle to Ewood Park.

The four remaining fixtures take place on Wednesday night, starting with Chelsea, looking to bounce back from defeat in the Carabao Cup final, hosting Leeds.

Manchester United travel to take on Nottingham Forest and Wolves face Brighton, before Liverpool’s home tie against Southampton brings an end to the midweek action.

The eight teams still in the FA Cup will be confirmed on Wednesday night, with fifth-round fixtures going to extra-time and penalties if required. That is despite replays being used in previous rounds of the competition this season.

The decision was made by the FA in the 2018/19 campaign to scrap replays for the fifth round, in a bid to ease fixture congestion.

No replays were used in the 2020/21 competition, as football battled with the impact of the pandemic, but they returned to the first four rounds of the FA Cup last season.

Reports earlier this campaign suggested that replays could be scrapped entirely in coming seasons, with extra pressure on the domestic calendar due to the expansion of European competitions.

A decision on when the changes could come in has not yet been made, but a new TV contract is set for the 2025/26 season. FA Cup replays could be scrapped, along with the two-legged Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Luton vs Man City: FA Cup prediction today

17:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

Luton have shown at times this season that they can (almost) match the Premier League's bigger teams. City only narrowly won 2-1 at Kenilworth Road earlier this season, for example.

But they also come into the game off the back of three consecutive defeats, and did not look like winning at any point in those games. City will make changes but still field an extremely daunting team - it should be a fairly routine win for them.

Man City to win, 3-0.

Man City team news vs Luton today

17:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

City will likely make some changes against Luton. Julian Alvarez was for the win over Bournemouth dropped for the first time in the Premier League this season, so could come back in. Jeremy Doku and Kyle Walker joined him on the bench, along with Kevin De Bruyne.

Stefan Ortega should replace Ederson between the sticks as the cup goalkeeper. Josko Gvardiol is close to returning from injury, but is set to miss out again.

Alfie Doughty and Albert Sambi Lokonga will be assessed ahead of the game, while the likes of Andros Townsend will be given another chance to impress.

Elijah Adebayo, who scored in the corresponding Premier League fixture, misses out with a thigh injury, along with Marvelous Nakamba, Jacob Brown and Mads Andersen and captain Tom Lockyer.
