Lyall Cameron told brutal Rangers reality amid Dundee training absence as forgotten £1.5m transfer option remains
Rangers-bound Lyall Cameron is NOT as good as some of the players that have been "passed up" by the Ibrox club in recent years.
That is the view of Michael Stewart after it was announced that the Dundee midfielder was a pre-contract capture by the Light Blues on deadline day and will join up with Philippe Clement in Glasgow at the end of the current campaign. The 22-year-old is expected to make the move with Rangers paying out around £400,000 in compensation this summer to their Scottish Premiership rivals.
But sceptical Stewart reckons that Cameron is not at the same level as some of the players who have left Scottish football in recent years and could have been snapped up by the Light Blues. Barry Ferguson has previously been left baffled that his nephew Lewis was not snapped up by Rangers before joining Bologna.
Asked about the move on the Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart said: “It’s a positive. I think Lyall Cameron is a good player that has got plenty of growth to come but I don’t think he’s as good as some that they have ignored or passed up in the recent past."
Off the back of the deal, Sky Sports report that Cameron has missed training ahead of Wednesday night's clash with Celtic. However, it is reported that the Dundee star is carrying an injury into the clash and is not related to his fast-approaching move away from Dens Park.
Elsewhere, Rangers still hold and option-to-buy in Neraysho Kasanwirjo's contract after the end of the window. The Feyenoord loanee saw his season abruptly brought to an end in November after damaging his knee while on international duty.
Reports in the Netherland suggested that Dutch giants had been looking to recall the 22-year-old defender from his Ibrox deal as Eredivise rules mean Feyenoord can only loan six of their players to foreign clubs. Luka Ivanusec had been set to leave and return to Dinamo Zagreb in a temporary deal - with Kasanwirjo's Gers deal cut short.
However, the Croatian international saw his move collapse in the final hours of deadline day. It leaves Rangers with the chance to trigger Kasanwirjo's option to buy which reportedly stands at £1.4m
