Lyon president John Textor has confirmed that Rayan Cherki will not be leaving the club before the deadline amid links of a potential move to Liverpool. The Reds have been credited with an interest in signing Cherki in recent weeks, with the speculation ramping up as the January transfer window opened.

Liverpool have until 11pm on Monday night to complete their transfer business before the window slams shut. A host of players have been linked with a move to Anfield, but Arne Slot has yet to add any new faces to his squad since the turn of the year.

Cherki is one player that has been linked with potentially signing for Liverpool this window. However, reports in recent days have claimed that Borussia Dortmund have shown a concrete interest in signing the 21-year-old before the window closes in Germany.

Reports have claimed that Lyon value Cherki at around €22.5million (£18.7million) this window. Textor has confirmed that, not only did Dortmund bid to sign Cherki, but that it was well below their asking price.

As a result, Textor has issued a stance on Cherki's future amid rumours that Liverpool may still have an interest.

"The offer from Dortmund was communicated disrespectfully, was well below market value and was poorly timed," Textor told Sky Germany. "Rayan Cherki will remain an important part of our team until the end of the 2024/25 season."

"We have rejected Borussia Dortmund's offer and have no intention of negotiating with them or any other club," Textor added.

Cherki has scored five goals and provided nine assists for Lyon this season, leading to speculation that he could leave the Ligue 1 club this term. However, based on the update from Textor, it seems hat Liverpool may have to wait until the summer to act on their interest, if it's genuine.
