Portland windsurfer Emma Wilson blew away her competition as she sailed into first place at the iQFOiL International Games in Lanzarote.

The Olympic bronze medallist from Paris was back on top of the field as she became the first champion of the 2025 season - overcoming gusting and shifting winds in Spain.

Wilson was in dominating form throughout the week as entered Sunday's Grand Final as the Opening Series leader.

The new format of the competition meant that she was rewarded with a win for her consistent performance ahead of the Medal Series and Grand Final.

The windsurfer, who trains at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, then secured her second win in the final as she claimed the gold medal.

“After the Olympics I had a hard time and didn’t know whether to continue or not. I had some good people around me that I’m really grateful for, and in the end I just love windsurfing and this new format is good for me and good for everyone. I’m excited for the future.”

Israel's Shahar Tibi finished second, followed by another Portland based sailor, Islay Watson, who claimed the Bronze medal.

Watson beat Sara Wenneke of the Netherlands in the quarter final before beating Italy's Marta Maggetti to clinch a spot in the final.

The event brought together 100 of the world’s best iQFOiL athletes from 26 nations, kicking off the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.

Next up for Wilson and Islay will be the  #2 iQFOiL International Games in Cádiz from March 8 to 14 and the Trofeo Princesa Sofía in Palma from March 28 to April 5.
