Leeds United's title rivals Sheffield United have received a major boost with the news that manager Chris Wilder has committed his future to the Bramall Lane club.

Wilder, whose side are currently second in the Championship, two points off the Whites, has penned a new deal until the summer of 2028. The 57-year-old is in his second spell at the South Yorkshire club. He rejoined the club in December 2023 but was unable to keep them in the Premier League.

But Wilder has turned their fortunes around and is looking to lead the back to the top flight at the first time of asking. "Sheffield United is my club, and there is no place I’d rather be, so I am thrilled to be signing a new deal," said Wilder. "The football club is in a really good place, there’s a real feel-good factor around the training ground and I’m excited about what we can achieve together."

This new commitment comes bolstered by COH Sports' takeover last December, endorsing Wilder's vision for the squad.

"The new owners have been incredibly helpful to me since they arrived, and I’d personally like to thank them for their faith and support in what we are trying to work towards at this football club," he added.

Wilder's managerial career at United has already seen some high notes, including propelling the team from League One to the Championship and even landing a ninth-place finish in the top flight during their first season back—achievements the club surely hopes to replicate under his ongoing leadership.

The Blades host Leeds next month in a crucial top-of-the-table clash. Leeds triumphed in the reverse fixture after second half goals from Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph.
