Major Hull City transfer update with the Tigers set to walk away from Ruben Selles' key target
Hull City are unlikely to sign ex-Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor from Premier League strugglers Southampton ahead of Monday night's 11pm deadline.
City boss Ruben Selles had made York-born Taylor one of his primary January targets in the belief the 31-year-old would make a big difference to his side both defensively, and offensively.
The Tigers had a loan bid accepted last week by the Saints and had agreed terms with Taylor's camp over a short-term deal until the end of the season. But the former Burnley ace wanted to spend a few days considering his options, which, it's understood, included Watford.

With time running out until the window closes, it's become increasingly clear that Taylor is unlikely to move to the MKM Stadium, and therefore, City are understood to have stepped away from the deal.
City do have other targets on their list of potential left-back cover, including Millwall's Murray Wallace. But at this stage, the Tigers are not thought to be pushing to sign the experienced Glaswegian. Greg Taylor is another player the Tigers have coveted, amongst others, but the Celtic star, who played 90 minutes in the 4-2 Champions League defeat at Aston Villa on Wednesday night, looks to be staying for the time being, despite Brendan Rodgers trying to sign Kieran Tierney on loan from Arsenal now, rather than wait for him to arrive in the summer after agreeing a pre-contract at Celtic Park.
Taylor's deal is set to expire in the summer, and so far, the 27-year-old full-back has not penned fresh terms in the East End of Glasgow and will not be short of suitors should he opt to move on.
Sean McLoughlin has looked solid at left-back in the last three games he's operated in that position, while Matty Jacob is well thought of and came off the bench to score a crucial second in the thumping 3-0 win at Sheffield United on Friday night.
The Tigers have so far signed seven players in the winter window, with Aston Villa ace Louie Barry the latest to arrive on loan in time to feature on Saturday in the must-win game against Stoke City at the MKM Stadium, and there could yet be a late arrival before the 11pm deadline.
