Super League clubs have been informed by the RFL that a takeover bid has been lodged for Salford Red Devils. Clubs reconvened to discuss the future of Salford on Tuesday morning, with clubs given an update on their situation.

And clubs were told that an overseas investment group has officially placed a bid to acquire the club in what appears to be a significant step forward in securing the club's long-term future.

The main question now is whether a takeover can be completed in time to alleviate Salford's short-term issues, which in turn would end the club's need to sell players. Salford's payroll is next Thursday and while the prospect of Salford attracting new investment now appears more likely than ever, the question is whether the club will have the funds in place to secure their position in the short-term.

However, it was decided that as a result of recent developments, clubs would not vote on player dispensations and it will now be on the RFL to make those decisions as the situation surrounding Salford continues to develop. There is not thought to be a deadline in place regarding when sales must now start.

Salford did not attend the meeting, with their focus now on pushing the takeover through to aid both their short-term and long-term future. Now, everyone awaits updates from Salford in the hope that the takeover which would alleviate their current financial position is completed.
