All rugby and football matches in Wales have been called off on Saturday, including Cardiff City's game against Watford, as the country braces itself for Storm Darragh.

Following advice received from The Met Office, the Welsh Rugby Union and Football Association of Wales have decided to postpone all games, at all levels, in Wales on Saturday, December 7.

The WRU said: "Following advice from The Met Office around Storm Darragh, which is set to affect large parts of the country, the Welsh Rugby Union has postponed all community rugby fixtures across all ages scheduled for Saturday 7th December..

"The Met Office has issued Red, Amber, and Yellow Weather Warnings for the vast majority of Wales with expectations that there will be damaging winds and heavy rain, causing significant disruption and danger to life.

"The decision to postpone fixtures has therefore been made in the interests of safety for our clubs, officials, players and spectators.

"All League fixtures are to be rescheduled for an available date, with National Cup fixtures scheduled for this weekend now being rearranged for Saturday 14th December.

"For fixtures scheduled on Friday 6th December Sunday 8th December, clubs are advised to only proceed should they feel it is safe to do so.

"For clarity, the postponement and safety advice also applies to Super Rygbi Cymru round 10 fixtures, which will now be rescheduled."

The FAW added: "It is not safe to drive in such weather, including travelling to and from football matches. Being outside in high winds increases the risk of injury and The Met Office advises people to stay indoors if possible.

"Clubs have been advised to check for and secure any loose items around their grounds if it can be done safely. This includes bins, furniture, goalposts, and fences etc.

"Potential postponements of fixtures on Friday 6 December and Sunday 8 December will be considered on a case-by-case basis, in line with each individual league’s policy."

The most serious red weather warning has been given for the Saturday in large parts of Wales, and there are still amber and yellow warnings for Friday and Sunday.

On Thursday evening the M48 Severn Bridge was closed and the A55 Britannia Bridge had a speeding restriction due to strong winds.

On Friday afternoon, wind gusts in Pembrokeshire are expected to be around 52mph up in St David's, whilst in the evening, those are expected to pick up to around 60mph. It's a similar story for most places across Wales.

Winter Wonderland in Cardiff and Swansea will close from Friday evening until Sunday amid safety concerns.
