Miron Muslic has explained a lack of training time for transfer deadline day signing Malachi Boateng has limited his involvement for Plymouth Argyle so far.

The 22-year-old midfielder needs to get up to speed when it comes to tactics and what Muslic expects from his players, but due to the Pilgrims' busy schedule of games that has not been possible. Muslic thought there had been more post-match recovery sessions for the players than actual training sessions.

Boateng joined Argyle from Scottish Premiership side Hearts on February 3 for an undisclosed fee on a contract until the end of the 2027/28 season.

He made his debut as a second half substitute in the shock 1-0 Emirates FA Cup fourth round win against Liverpool at Home Park but has stayed on the bench for the two subsequent games, the 5-1 home victory over Millwall and the 2-0 defeat away to Blackburn Rovers.

Boateng has added to the competition for places in central midfield along with Adam Randell, who has captained the Pilgrims recently, Darko Gyabi and Jordan Houghton.

Muslic said: "I'm very happy with him and I think he proved against Liverpool the value he can add to our team. I don't think it's an easy game entering the last 15, 20 minutes against Liverpool and he did it fantastic to finish it together with Darko.

"The only little issue that we just go from game to game, we don't have training time and there are a lot of things he has to understand tactically. He just purely missed this right now due to the heavy schedule.

"We have actually more recovery sessions than real sessions. We are playing game by game and it will just take him a little bit of time. He misses simply pitch time and sessions."

Muslic added: "He's very close to the team. As soon as we have a clean week that will be his next step towards the starting 11 and towards being selectable. Liverpool was a clean week so he can be involved in everything and I rewarded him with game time. Mal is on a very good way and he will play a big role for us."
