Manchester City are preparing to announce their first two signings in a busy January transfer window.

The Blues are putting finishing touches on deals for Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, with both expected to be announced in the next 24 hours. The young defensive pair will immediately join Pep Guardiola's squad for the second half of the season, although they are not able to be added to the squad for the first phase of the Champions League so the first game they will be available for is the home match against Chelsea on Saturday.

City are also in the final stages of concluding a £59m deal for Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian was not in the squad to face Dortmund on Friday but appeared on the pitch to say farewell to fans ahead of his move to the Etihad.

Txiki Begiristain has moved quickly to accelerate City's plans in the January window. The problems in the existing squad caused by an injury crisis this season forced the club to act quicker than they would have liked in a winter market where they do not enjoy operating, but they have been decisive to bring in at least three players.

More could follow as City weigh up the possibility of signing a midfielder, while Kyle Walker could secure a move to AC Milan this month. However, the Blues will be satisfied with the speed at which they have been able to bring in defensive reinforcements that are also counted as long-term prospects for the future.

City have also been buoyed by the mega contract signed by Erling Haaland that ties him to the club until 2034. Haaland arrived from Dortmund in 2022 and is in the running to win the Premier League Golden Boot for the third consecutive season.
