Manchester City have completed the £59milion signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.

The Egyptian international has joined the club on a four-and-a-half-year deal and becomes the club's third signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.

City will pay £59m (€70m) to Frankfurt, with around £4.2m potentially following in bonuses and add-ons. Reis takes the number seven shirt last worn by Joao Cancelo and before that Raheem Sterling.

It gives Guardiola much needed competition for Erling Haaland up front and fills the void left by the sale of World Cup winner Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in the summer. City banked a record sum for Alvarez, but Haaland has been short of rest this season and has started every Premier League and Champions League game.

Marmoush has been in prolific form for Frankfurt this term and has scored 20 goals across all competitions. His 15-goal haul in the Bundesliga has only been bettered by Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane.

Speaking after his move to City was confirmed, Marmoush said: “This is a day I will never forget. To sign for Manchester City. one of the best teams in the world, is an amazing feeling.

“With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to become better. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here. And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies.

"I want to learn from the staff and my teammates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team."

Manager sporting director Txiki Begiristain added: "Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us.

“He’s had an outstanding season, and every time we have watched him, he has influenced matches. He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.

“I also have no doubt that working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him further develop his superb attacking talent.”

The 25-year-old only joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer 18 months ago but he quickly established himself as a fans' favourite at the Deutsche Bank Park. Frankfurt has become renowned for producing world class forwards and have previously sold Luka Jovic to Real Madrid and Randal Kolo Muani to PSG for substantial fees.

Marmoush has spent his entire career in Germany after leaving Egyptian side Wadi Degla in 2017 to join Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and he has also spent loan spells with St Pauli and Stuttgart in the past. He is also an international team-mate of Liverpool talisman Mo Salah and has earned comparisons to the 32-year-old's playing style.

Marmoush will be expected to be included in the squad to face Chelsea at home on Saturday in the Premier League, however he cannot be registered for the Champions League league phase so won't be eligible to face Club Brugge next week - but can be registered if City qualify for the knockout play-offs.
