Man City copy Chelsea with major Erling Haaland decision in huge £250m statement amid 115 charges
Manchester City have confirmed that Erling Haaland has signed a new contract to remain at the Etihad Stadium and shut down any speculation around his future.
There had been plenty of talk around Haaland's future, with his previous contract due to expire in 2027 that was reported to have certain clauses in it that could have seen him leave earlier for an agreed price.
However, Man City have moved to end any speculation around the Norwegian's future, but handing him a whopping new nine-and-a-half year contract that will see him tied down to the Etihad Stadium outfit until 2034.

It is a deal that is reminiscent of the contracts being handed out by Chelsea under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with the clear transfer philosophy in west London to tie down young talents to long contracts. Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson all have deals that run beyond 2030 at Stamford Bridge.
The deal is a huge statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League, particularly with the 115 charges over financial irregularities from the Premier League hanging over their heads. City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023, with a hearing now concluded and a decision expected in the spring.
Haaland's new deal - which will make him the highest paid player in the Premier League - is reported to have a release clause of £250million written into it, which only becomes valid in 2029.
Speaking to the club's official website, Haaland said: "Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.
"I also want to thank Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.
"I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward."
A Manchester City with Haaland in the ranks for the next four years at least, plus any more should his release clause not be activated then, is a scary proposition for the rest of the league and those like Arsenal and Liverpool aiming to win the Premier League title.
