What Man City fans chanted to Manchester United speaks volumes as squad identify real heroes
Manchester City romped to a huge away win at Ipswich to extend their unbeaten run to six games.
City were still not perfect, but they were clinical and took advantage of Ipswich's weak right-hand side to run riot at Portman Road. Phil Foden converted from two Kevin De Bruyne crosses from the same position in the first half either side of Mateo Kovacic's low drive.
Jeremy Doku was involved in all three goals and got one of his own after the break, before turning provider for Erling Haaland. Kovacic clipped in a ball for substitute James McAtee to wrap up the rout and send City into the Champions League this week in high spirits.

These are the moments you might have missed from City's Premier League clash at Portman Road.
Telling reaction to Foden goal
A third goal in two games, and fourth in three in the Premier League for Foden was another sign that he is rediscovering the sharpness that made him the Premier League Player of the Year last season. He has struggled for various fitness and form reasons this term but 2025 has started well for Foden.
As he ran off to celebrate his well-taken opener, most of his City teammates instead went to Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku, who had combined to create the opening with good link-up and instinctive play.
Similarly, when Doku and Foden combined to set up Kovacic two minutes later for a thumping second, every outfield player celebrated together, but there were as many pats on the back for Foden and Doku as there were for the goalscorer. It was Foden's second assist in four to go with his four goals.
As captain De Bruyne urged calm - understandably given City had thrown away a two goal lead away from home days earlier - Pep Guardiola then called the Belgian over for a chat on the touchline before the restart.
New chant for Haaland (and an old one for United)
Erling Haaland has achieved everything at City prior to his record ten year contract which surprised everyone this week. Except a personalised chant from the City fans.
The supporters adopted his chant from Borussia Dortmund when he arrived - an effective if simple 'Haaland! Haaland! Haaland!" Now, he has a chant of his own that was debuted at Portman Road.
Some fans on social media had proposed a version of their United-mocking chant to say 'Haaland's staying ten more years, Man City are on the beers', but they opted for a less controversial 'Ten more years, ten more years, Erling Haaland.'
He will be 'playing football the City way' until 2034, and the away end were in good form as they didn't waste an opportunity to mock United, beaten at Brighton earlier on Sunday. The City support gleefully told their hosts that they were 'going down with United' after Kovacic's second goal.
Five substitutes tell the story
With a must-win Champions League test at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, Guardiola must have been delighted at City's 3-0 interval lead at half-time, and their two quickfire goals after the break. There would be no repeat of the Brentford collapse and Guardiola could make the kind of changes he's been prevented from making for most of the season.
Haaland, De Bruyne and Foden got an extended rest ahead of the PSG trip, and were soon followed by Kovacic and Manu Akanji - two players who have been forced to play more than Guardiola would have liked recently.
Those five would have been expected to start at the Parc des Princes anyway, but must be nailed on now. Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are likely, too, while it will be hard to look past Doku after his role in five of City's six goals at Ipswich. City's rare ruthlessness allowed Guardiola to look ahead to Paris while still in Suffolk.
Worlds collide at Portman Road
As the City squad arrived - through the VIP car park at Portman Road - a blacked-out car entered at the same time Jack Grealish and Haaland got off the bus. It felt like a security oversight to allow a vehicle in at the same time as a £100m player and the man who has just signed a ten year deal worth a reported £247m. Surely they could wait a minute or two...
So who was so important that they couldn't wait?
Getting out of the car was Ipswich fan and shareholder Ed Sheeran, and suddenly it all made sense. Sheeran jumped out just in time for Grealish to pass, with the pair happy to catch up after Sheeran's private gigs with the England camp and their previous meetings at the singer's concerts.
Haaland and Akanji also seemed to know Sheeran, and the four men walked into the stadium together, continuing their chat in the tunnel before leaving the City players to make their way to the away dressing room - all with huge smiles on their faces. It was a strange meeting as superstars from the football and music world collided.
Class tribute to a true legend
Ipswich and City remembered Denis Law before kick-off - a former City player but remembered for his heroics across Manchester. City sent a classy tribute to United on the sad news of Law's death this week, and the away end at Portman Road gave their own tribute on Sunday.
With a minute's silence announced, the away end instead sang 'once a Blue, always a Blue', which prompted spontaneous applause from the other 3.5 sides of the ground. It was a touching tribute to a football legend who transcended club colours.
