Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips has backed Liverpool or Arsenal to win the Premier League this season and end his parent club's four-year stranglehold on the title.

England international Phillips joined City from Leeds United in 2022 for £45m and won the Premier League title in his first season at the club. But after winning the following season's title to make it four in a row since 2021, City have been left behind by Liverpool in this season's title race, with the Reds currently 14 points clear of Pep Guardiola's side.

And Phillips, who is spending this season on loan at newly-promoted Ipswich Town, has hailed Liverpool as this season's "standout team" and believes it will be them or Arsenal that end City's monopoly of English football.

Speaking on Amazon Prime after his side's 1-0 defeat at the Emirates on Friday, Phillips said: "They are a really good team, really strong.

"I think Liverpool are the standout team so far but I think Arsenal are the ones who will push them in the end."

Victory for the Gunners lifted them up to second place in the Premier League table and cut the gap to Liverpool to six points, though the Reds have a game in hand. However, they are set to be without forward Bukayo Saka until March, after he suffered he underwent surgery on an issue he sustained in the 5-1 win at Crystal Palace earlier this month.
