Man City: 'Happy' Erling Haaland gives verdict on potential Real Madrid move

Erling Haaland has refused to rule out one day moving to Real Madrid, but insists he remains “really happy” at Manchester City.

City, who tonight host FC Copenhagen in the Champions League last-16, beat Real to the £51.2million signing of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is expected to join Los Blancos as a free agent in the summer, but Real remain long-time admirers of 23-year-old Haaland too.

When asked whether he feels he can fulfil his career aspirations at City, Haaland told reporters: “I’m really happy, especially with the people that I’m surrounded with — the manager, the directors, the board.

“They are a group of amazing people and I’m really happy, I have to say.

“If I say this now it’s probably going to be a massive headline, [but] tomorrow you never know what the future brings.

“But I’m happy. You can write this, but you also have to write everything I said before. I’m happy.”

Haaland netted his 28th goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 derby victory over Manchester United, but only after producing one of the misses of the season.

“People say I’m good at scoring goals, but I missed the biggest chance in the world ever two days ago”, he said, with a hint of irony.

Haaland is expected to start tonight when the defending champions host FC Copenhagen, hoping to reach the Champions League with a 3-1 lead already established from the first leg.

In tonight’s other tie, Real face RB Leipzig, who they beat 1-0 in the away leg last month.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti said: “It’s an important opportunity to continue in a special competition for us. We have to be at our best. The tie is not over.”
