Man City line up £50m-plus Kyle Walker replacement Andrea Cambiaso
Manchester City are interested in signing £50 million-plus Italy full-back Andrea Cambiaso as they look at long-term replacements for Kyle Walker but are willing to wait until the summer before pushing forward with a deal.
Cambiaso has played on both flanks for Juventus this season and featured in every game of the campaign until suffering an ankle injury in December which he has just returned from. City have watched the 24-year-old and he is among the players they have shortlisted as they rebuild Pep Guardiola’s squad, but the club are willing to wait until the summer before pushing forward with a deal.
Walker, the club captain, told City last week that he wanted to move to finish his career abroad after a glittering spell at the Etihad Stadium including six Premier League triumphs. He has interest from AC Milan but the Italians only have one non-European Union registration left and also want Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Cambiaso is admired at City although a deal may not happen this month, with the priority to get moves across the line for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush along with Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and Palmeiras centre-back Vitor Reis.
Khusanov, 20, and Reis, 19, would bolster Guardiola’s defence immediately, although they play in central positions. City have used Josko Gvardiol at left-back this season, with Rico Lewis also able to play in the full-back positions. Other options were used at full-back against Salford City in the FA Cup, with Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly dropping back from midfield.
Walker, 33, made his request last Thursday through talks with Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, with Guardiola revealing this when he left him out of the Cup win against Salford. His departure could leave City needing an extra full-back as they look to get their season back on track.
Juventus would make a profit on the £7.2 million they paid Genoa for Cambiaso in 2022, with an asking price likely to be more than £50 million.
