Manchester City are set to cut short Kayky's loan spell with Sparta Rotterdam to allow the winger to spend the second half the season elsewhere, while the Blues are also chasing late deals of their own.

City have splashed out more than £120million on three new signings so far this month but remain open to strengthening further. They retain an interest in Juventus full back Andrea Cambiaso at Juventus but it is in midfield where there seems the greatest need.

City like Ederson at Atalanta but that deal is unlikely to happen this month given the Italians are still in the Champions League and remain in the mix at the top of Serie A. Douglas Luiz at Juventus, a former City player, could be a low cost option on loan but reports have emerged that the Blues have made an approach for Porto star Nico Gonzalez.

The 23-year-old Spaniard is a regular for the Portuguese side and operates as a box to box midfielder having been converted from a more defensive position at former club Barcelona. He is also capable of playing further forward.

He reportedly has a release clause worth €60million (£50million) while Barca have a buy back option and a 40 per cent sell-on fee. The midfielder only moved to Porto in July 2023, signing a five year deal after an £8.5m switch.

Gonzalez has made 24 appearances for Porto in all competitions this season, scoring six goals.

Meanwhile, City prospect Kayky is set for a fresh move. The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Netherlands with Sparta, making only a handful of appearances, and he is set to return to the Etihad before moving on loan again ahead of Monday's transfer deadline day.

The youngster has featured just twice for City since his arrival in 2021, coming off the bench in the closing stages of FA Cup wins over Swindon Town and a Premier League victory over Norwich City in early 2022.

He has had loan spells back in Brazil with Bahia and at Pacos Ferreira in Portugal. He joined City from Fluminense and is under contract at the Etihad until 2026.
