Manchester City will assess Juma Bah in the summer before deciding where he will spend next season after completing their fourth signing of the January window.

Bah was snapped up from Real Valladolid despite the anger of the Spanish club, who accused City of encouraging the 18-year-old defender to activate his release clause that meant his contract was terminated and he was free to join anyone willing to pay his fee. City's call takes their spending past £125m for the window and he is their third new centre-back.

Rather than joining Pep Guardiola's squad immediately, Bah has been loaned to Lens - where City bought Abdukodir Khusanov from this month - for the rest of the season. A decision will then be made as to whether to send him on another loan or to bring him to Manchester.

Bah is categorised as a developmental talent, in the way that defenders Yan Couto and Pedro Porro were when they were signed. Neither of those went on to play under Guardiola, yet they have gone on to have excellent careers at top clubs that has included Champions League football.

City's move for Bah represents a whirlwind rise for the teenager, who was still playing in Sierra Leone six months ago and then catapulted his way into La Liga from the youth ranks of Valladolid. From a football journey that began playing barefoot in Freetown and getting up at 4am to help his father run the family bakery, Bah has now arrived at Lens via the Premier League champions.
