Man City suffer major £50m injury blow before Real Madrid after nightmare FA Cup start at Leyton Orient
Manchester City's new £50m signing Nico Gonzalez lasted just 20 minutes into his debut in a nightmare start at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
Gonzalez started less than a week after his deadline day signing from Porto, with Pep Guardiola talking up his ability to strengthen City's defensive midfield position. And the Etihad chief took the opportunity to rest Mateo Kovacic completely at Orient in order to blood Gonzalez from the start.
Some nice touches saw him begin brightly, but when he lost possession on the halfway line and went down, Orient forward Jamie Donley chipped Stefan Ortega from 45 yards to give the League One side the lead. Gonzalez looked to be fouled, but there was no VAR in operation and the goal stood.

To add injury to insult, Gonzalez went down holding his hip following the challenge and looked in pain as he limped off just 20 minutes into his debut. He will now be a doubt for Tuesday's huge Champions League play-off first leg vs Real Madrid.
Prior to the game, Guardiola spoke of his hopes for Gonzalez, telling BBC Sport: "It's his first game, he has trained two or three times. He played at Barcelona and Porto. He knows what to do at holding midfielder. For the absence we have as soon as possible he can start to play with us, it's good."
Gonzalez was replaced by Bernardo Silva, while Ederson, Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb remained sidelined with injury - although Ruben Dias returned to the starting line up after his own absence.
