Manchester City youngster Jacob Wright is closing in on a move to Swansea City.

The teenager has travelled to South Wales as talks accelerate for the 19-year-old's departure from the Etihad. If it goes through, the move is expected to be a loan for the rest of this season, with the Championship club having an obligation to make it permanent in summer providing they stay in the division.

After 30 of 46 matches, they are seven points clear of the relegation zone after a difficult campaign that saw manager Michael Duff dismissed at the beginning of December.

The permanent deal is set to be worth around £4million with the Championship club seeking reinforcements having allowed Matt Grimes to leave for Coventry City. Middlesbrough had also been linked with a move for Wright.

Wright has made four first team appearances for Pep Guardiola's side and travelled to the USA on their pre-season tour last summer. He has been around the first team picture at City but has not managed to make a breakthrough into the squad on a regular basis. The move to Swansea will offer him the chance of first team football.

The departure for Wright would be the latest example of City selling their academy prospects having allowed the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Liam Delap and Tommy Doyle to leave in the last 12 months.

Wright has been with City since the age of eight. He has progressed through the ranks and made his first team debut in the FA Cup win over Huddersfield last season while he also came off the bench in a Champions League win over FC Copenhagen.
