Man City transfer news with Khusanov close, Reis stumbling block and £100m splurge
Manchester City are expected to be busy this month as their squad rebuild begins in earnest.
Pep Guardiola has accepted he needs a bigger squad to compete across all competitions in an ever-expanding football calendar while several of his current players are approaching the final years of their careers.
With the City chief having signed a new deal at the club, he is beginning to revamp the squad and several deals could be done in January with the first understood to be imminent. Here's the transfer latest from the Etihad.

Deal close
Manchester City are close to agreeing a deal for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
City have admired the 20-year-old centre-back for some time and, as the Manchester Evening News reported last week, opted to bring forward plans to sign him amid their injury crisis. Khusanov sat out of training with Lens on Friday through illness, but it is expected that an agreement with all parties is close that will see the defender become the first signing for the Blues this month.

Reis stumbling block
City transfer target Vitor Reis is for sale this month - but the Blues have been sent a clear message over the terms of any potential deal.
City want to sign Palmeiras centre-back Reis, 18, this month and would prefer to add him to their squad immediately rather than in the summer.
A key sticking point for any deal for Reis is the FIFA Club World Cup, with Palmeiras joining City in the expanded tournament in the USA in June and July. The Brazilian side want to keep Reis for the tournament, whereas City may want to bring him to the club so he can represent them instead.

Marmoush update
City are yet to bid for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush, according to the German club's manager.
Marmoush will be part of their weekend plans against St Pauli amid intense speculation over his future. City have made Marmoush a top target this month and hope to sign him for around £50m, but Eintracht reportedly want closer to £80m and are aware that selling him will weaken their bid to qualify for the Champions League next season and progress in the Europa League in the current campaign.
Eintracht are third in the Bundesliga and fifth in the Europa League thanks to Marmoush's 18 goals and 12 assists this season - prompting City and others to look at acquiring his services.
