The January transfer window is now open and Manchester City might be inclined to strengthen their squad. Pep Guardiola's side have endured a torrid couple of months, dropping down the Premier League table, exiting the Carabao Cup and facing elimination from the Champions League.

Although City earned a much-needed 2-0 success at Leicester on Sunday, it was just their second win in 13 matches across all competitions and there is still work to do to revive their season. Guardiola's men sit sixth, four points behind fourth-place Chelsea and a mammoth 14 adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Talk has intensified that City could be keen to dip into the January market to attempt to bolster their ranks and give the squad an extra boost going into the second half of the season. And, according to The Mirror, City have intensified several players who could join the club during the winter window.

It's reported that the first arrival might come on a free transfer with Dani Olmo emerging as a transfer target. The Spaniard is no longer registered with Barcelona after La Liga rejected their bid to sign the attacking midfielder on for the remainder of the campaign, after the special dispensation period ended.

Atalanta's Ederson has been tipped as a candidate to help fill the void left by Rodri's absence from City's midfielder, although his club are top of Serie A and do not want to lose him. Former City midfielder Douglas Luiz, now at Juventus, has been discussed as a loan option, it has been claimed.

Guardiola is also said to be an admirer of Crystal Palace duo Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze, while Anthony Gordon is another that has joined the list of players City want. They are 'unlikely' to sign any of them until the summer following a raft of departures, however.

As for on-pitch matters, City are back in action when they host West Ham this weekend. Guardiola will be keen to make it back-to-back wins for the first time since October, as City look to move further up the table and return to form heading into another crucial period of the season.
