Manchester City's £110m forward line of Omar Marmoush and Erling Haaland have already displayed an excellent 'understanding' with each other - despite only training together for two days.

That is the verdict of the Premier League's record goalscorer Alan Shearer, who was left seriously impressed by Marmoush's debut against Chelsea - just two days after his £59million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt was confirmed.

Marmoush, as well as fellow new signing Abdukodir Khusanov, was thrown straight into City's starting line-up during their 3-1 win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium and he looked sharp on the left-hand side of a front three that also included Haaland and Phil Foden.

Haaland and Foden were among the goals, alongside left-back Josko Gvardiol, while Marmoush saw a debut goal disallowed for offside.

Nonetheless, the signs were positive and former Newcastle forward Shearer was full of praise for the 25-year-old's performance and is excited to see the partnership of Haaland and Marmoush blossom.

"Khusanov had a tough debut but I was impressed by Marmoush," Shearer said on BBC's Match of the Day. "I thought he had a promising debut, played some really good football, was a threat and brought some energy, pace and a willingness [to City's attacking play].

"He was bright, he was lively, he got some good balls into the box, he had an understanding with Haaland, despite only being there a couple of days. I liked the way he wanted to get in there and he had to do his shift defensively and that was impressive to see him backing up Gvardiol in that position.

"There is no doubt he will learn from today and will get better and he played a big part in the game. It was a good day for him and City."
