Manchester City is grappling with a spate of injuries as it gears up for another big Premier League clash this weekend.

But Liverpool is not without problems of its own. On Sunday, Pep Guardiola's side will welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium in a top-tier clash, with ambitions of bouncing back from a regrettable midweek loss. City tasted defeat at the hands of Real Madrid, with a 3-1 scoreline concluding the team's Champions League journey with a 6-3 aggregate before even reaching the last-16.

In domestic soccer, however, City's most recent outing saw them comfortably dispatch Newcastle United 4-0, and Guardiola's players will be eager to replicate that performance against current league frontrunner Liverpool this coming weekend. Injuries have left their mark on numerous Premier League squads this term, and neither City nor Liverpool have been spared.

The Anfield outfit is sure to miss Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley for their impending faceoff with City. Liverpool's head coach Arne Slot disclosed on Thursday that Gomez has had to undergo an operation for a hamstring issue, whereas Bradley sustained an injury during the draw with Aston Villa.

Cody Gakpo's absence from Liverpool's last two games with a knock looms large too with Slot admitting it will be a "close call" regarding the Dutch forward's readiness for Sunday's showdown against City.

Guardiola is contending with a spate of injury woes as his team prepares to face Liverpool. Rodri, Oscar Bobb, and Manuel Akanji were all absent from the defeat to Madrid on Wednesday, and John Stones had to leave the pitch early due to a potential injury.

Erling Haaland's fitness was another concern during their outing in Madrid. After picking up a knee injury in the victory over Newcastle last week, Haaland found himself relegated to the bench for the match, with Guardiola opting not to risk him.

"Not close enough," Guardiola admitted before the game against Madrid. "Trained a little bit yesterday but spoke this morning and said he [Haaland] doesn't feel good, so we choose another one.

"Of course, Erling is massively important for us, not necessary to be a manager to realize. But it is what it is. During this season, has been many cases [of injury], it could not be different for this important game."

Liverpool.com says: Both teams have injury problems at the moment but the Reds are in a much better position to be able to cope. If Mohamed Salah is on form, Liverpool should win and send another big message to Arsenal in the Premier League title race. The Gunners, by the time Slot's men kick off, will already have played West Ham United the previous day.
