West Ham United fans without a ticket for Saturday's clash at Manchester City will be unable to watch the action in the UK this weekend.

The Iron make the long trip north to face the champions still reeling from the heavy 5-0 loss at home to Liverpool in the Premier League. Such a result was painful enough for West Ham but to compound their misery, star forward Jarrod Bowen fractured his foot and is set for lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The one saving grace for West Ham fans is that City find themselves in a difficult period of form too. Pep Guardiola's side may have beaten Leicester City 2-0 last Sunday but before that, the Blues had only won one of their last 13 matches across all competitions and look to be firmly out of the title race.

With pressure still considerable on both managers, many fans would have hoped to watch the action on television. However, neither Sky Sports nor TNT Sport have chosen the match for TV coverage.

As a result, the fixture will be played at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. This falls within the 'Blackout' for English football.

This rule is an initiative introduced by the FA to help clubs in the lower leagues. It was introduced after fears from the EFL and below that high profile matches played at 3pm on a Saturday would put off casual supporters from attending lower league games.

In the modern day, some supporters have criticised the decision to continue with the 'Blackout', especially when all matches in the Premier League, regardless of kick-off time, can be watched live abroad. However, the FA, Premier League and EFL remain committed to the 'Blackout'.
