Manchester United may be forced to think outside the box in their transfer hunt for a new striker in the summer transfer window. A centre-forward is likely to be the priority at the end of the season amid struggles in front of goal.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored just 12 goals between them this season with Amad, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes all outscoring them.

After opting against making a move for Mathys Tel in January to focus on the summer, United are incredibly short in attack. A move for a world-class number nine is expected to be at the forefront of Ineos' plans but PSR could limit their business.

Viktor Gyokeres has constantly been linked with a reunion with Ruben Amorim but United's failure to qualify for European football could limit how much money will be in the kitty. That means alternatives may be considered and the recruitment team could be forced to use their initiative.

Ipswich Town's Liam Delap is a wildcard option for United. The forward has adjusted to life in the Premier League fairly well this season with 10 goals in 26 games, but the Tractor Boys' relegation fears mean he's likely to be sold in the summer should they return to the Championship.

His performances are attracting attention and his physical presence makes him a favourable option for Amorim. It's understood that if Ipswich are relegated, his price tag will drop but it is worth noting that Manchester City have a £40million buyback clause to bring him back to the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked with the 22-year-old but United's hopes of landing Delap could be boosted courtesy of the appointment of Jason Wilcox. The former midfielder joined United as Technical Director to help oversee the football department at the club.

Wilcox arrived at Carrington after spells with Man City and Southampton. It was as academy director at City, where Wilcox first laid eyes on Delap after he was signed from Derby County.

The technical director is set to play a big role in United's summer movement at the end of the season and having a relationship with the player already in place could be the fine margin to bring Delap to Old Trafford.
