Alan Shearer claims Ruben Amorim has complained to the Manchester United board about the lack of talent in his squad following their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

The Red Devils suffered their seventh league defeat on Sunday (December 22) as they were outclassed by the Cherries. It was Bournemouth's second straight 3-0 win at Old Trafford with their triumph resulting in United remaining 13th in the table.

Despite Amorim's arrival last month following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, United's poor form has continued while they've already been bounced out of one competition, due to their 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals last week.

The dismal performances of the 39-year-old's team has left Shearer contemplating whether he's complained to the club's hierarchy regarding the squad's lack of quality.

Discussing United's latest defeat on The Rest is Football podcast, the Newcastle United icon said: "He must think 'my goodness, this job is so much harder than I thought it was going to be', he has to have said to the owners 'the money you have spent and this is what you've given me to try and sort this mess out'."

He added: "He's got a huge job on his hands." Amorim had his say on what he believes is causing his side to underperform, claiming his side is suffering from anxiety.

"I think the understanding of our game is a lot about mentality," he said after the defeat to Bournemouth. "You can feel it in the first goal-kick from [Andre] Onana, he is thinking what to do, trying to push the other guys - and everybody is so anxious.

"At this moment, in our club, everybody is tired of this moment. We know what to do, we have to address a lot of things but we are ready to do it. We already knew it, we knew the challenge is big.

"But it's one set-piece, one penalty, and a moment where we have to forget the context and keep the ball for a moment without trying to score two goals right away. It's a really tough moment and we have to understand what the players are thinking in that moment. We will address that."

United are back in action on Boxing Day (December 26) when they travel to take on Wolves who are coming off a confidence-building 3-0 win at Leicester City.
