Manchester United could reportedly face a blow in their pursuit for Sporting Clube de Portugal forward Viktor Gyokeres amid interest from Arsenal.

The Independent report Gyokeres has been mentioned in 'discussions' at Arsenal over a much-needed forward signing this month. The ACL injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus has brought forward Mikel Arteta's plans from the summer.

Arteta himself, admitted they are 'actively looking' for a striker to fill the void left by the Brazilian and Bukayo Saka. "We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking," he said this week. "We have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad and we play every three days. So, we will try and let's see what we can get."

The report adds that Gyokeres, Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Brighton's Evan Ferguson are potential options. Gyokeres’ form in Portugal has put him high on club’s transfer wish lists, though his hefty €100million (£84m) release clause has put many clubs off so far.

However, that figure is reportedly set to be lowered in the summer. While United cannot afford to sign the 26-year-old this winter, Sporting are keen to keep Gyokeres for the rest of the season.

Elsewhere, AC Milan have decided against signing Marcus Rashford. Instead, they have opted to sign Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.

A little known rule in Serie A means that clubs can only have one British player in their squad per year. This means that having both players in their squad would be impossible.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe, negotiations for Rashford are 'very difficult' due to finances involved. United are thought to want £50million for the forward to leave the club this month.

Fabrizio Romano meanwhile, has added that negotiations are advancing to the final stages over a transfer while Sky Sports add that 'no official offers' have been made for the England international.
