How Man United could line-up with Dani Olmo deal as new January transfer details emerge
Rewind to the summer transfer window earlier this year and Dani Olmo was one of the most sought-after players in European football.
Manchester United were credited with an interest in signing Olmo after his performances with Spain on their way to winning Euro 2024. United were not alone in their reported interest, but it was Barcelona who won the race to sign Olmo in the summer.
However, reports have recently emerged claiming that Olmo could be on the move just months after signing for the La Liga giants. The Times have reported that United are keeping tabs on Olmo's future amid suggestions that he could leave Barcelona in January.
Barcelona agreed a £51million deal to sign Olmo in the summer, but due to their financial situation could only register the playmaker until December 31 rather than for the full season. It has been claimed that the Spanish giants may be forced to allow Olmo to leave the club in January if they are unable to register him for the remainder of the campaign.

A separate report from TBR Football has claimed that Olmo could move to a new club in January on loan rather than on a permanent basis. The 26-year-old is reported to be open to the possibility of a move to the Premier League in the New Year, handing United a major boost if their interest turns out to be genuine.
United have been mentioned as showing an interest in signing Olmo, but may face competition from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea, who have all previously been linked with his signature. If United were to sign Olmo, it may suit Ruben Amorim's system and style of football - and the player's agent was even spotted in Manchester this week in a move which is only likely to heighten speculation he could head to Old Trafford.
Olmo typically plays in the No.10 role for Spain and Barcelona, as well as on the left wing. This versatility would give Amorim valuable options in a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 system were Olmo to move to Old Trafford.
Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez are currently United's first-choice centre-backs in a three-player defence. Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are also the likely starting full-backs for the time being with Luke Shaw injured and Tyrell Malacia was not included in the matchday squad for the defeat to Wolves.
Midfield is where we could see Olmo operate as a United player. Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo could perform in front of the centre-backs in a deeper role in midfield, although Bruno Fernandes is also an option along with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
If Ugarte and Mainoo both start in midfield, Olmo could be selected in an advanced midfield role alongside Fernandes behind the main striker. Rasmus Hojlund has been a regular starter under Amorim but will still face competition from Joshua Zirkzee for a spot in the team.
Potential Man United team with Dani Olmo signing (3-4-2-1): Onana; Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dalot; Olmo, Fernandes; Hojlund.
