Man United handed transfer response after shock 'approach' for Alejandro Garnacho replacement
Manchester United have reportedly made a last-minute attempt to land Brighton star Julio Enciso as a replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, who is heavily linked with an exit this month.
The Argentinian has found regular game time difficult to come by under Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese manager dropping him from his matchday squad for the Manchester Derby in December. Not only that, United are under increasing pressure to sell a high-value academy player to raise money that will majorly help their standing with regards to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Players such as Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo, who were deemed untouchable last summer, no longer hold the same status. Last week, the Manchester Evening News reported that United rejected Napoli's opening £40million bid for the winger.

This week, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio added that Napoli have 'resumed contacts' with Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi after negotiations 'stalled' over Garnacho. It's said the two clubs met on Tuesday, where United 'lowered' their demand from the initial €75m (£63m) fee to around €65m (£55m).
After reportedly meeting up again on Wednesday, Napoli have made it clear they are only willing to pay 'between €50-55m' (£42-46m). Besides Napoli, Chelsea are also interested in completing a swoop and are said to be 'weighing up' a formal proposal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Given the possibility the 20-year-old could depart Old Trafford, United are working behind the scenes to land his replacement. Enciso, who was on their list, rejected a move to United, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
United tried to hijack the deal from Ipswich Town, with Brighton allowing the 20-year-old to leave the south coast on loan this winter. Enciso's reason to reject a move is said to be due to prioritising regular game time and wanting to be a first option.
The report adds he also rebuffed a move to Borussia Dortmund and Valencia to join Ipswich, where he is likely to play a key role for Kieran McKenna's side.
