Manchester United have been dealt a boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. The 26-year-old has been tipped to make the switch to Old Trafford and reunite with Ruben Amorim.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry for £16.7million in July 2023 and has been a revelation since his move to Portugal. After scoring 43 times in 50 matches during his debut season, he has followed that up with netting a staggering 32 goals in 30 appearances this term.

With Amorim, who brought Gyokeres to Sporting 18 months ago, swapping Lisbon for Manchester in November, it has increased speculation that the Sweden international could join United. There are others interested in the £63m-rated striker, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid also linked.

Bayern Munich are another that have been tracking his progress. However, it appears that Vincent Kompany's side have got their eyes on a current Premier League star instead. According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern are in talks with Chelsea over a deal for out-of-favour forward Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku has struggled for regular minutes at Stamford Bridge this season. The Frenchman has started just three Premier League matches in 2024/25, with the majority of his game time coming in the Conference League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Despite this, he has still scored 13 goals and added four assists in 28 appearances.

A move back to the Bundesliga could suit Nkunku after his fruitful spell with RB Leipzig. Bayern are looking for an understudy to Harry Kane with Mathys Tel's future uncertain. It has been reported that Chelsea are considering a potential player-plus-cash swap deal with Bayern involving Tel and Nkunku.

That could be both parties, with the door then opening for United to swoop in and sign Gyokeres. Although it's unknown whether United are going to make a concrete move for Gyokeres, it wouldn't be a surprise if they went into the market for a new striker with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee not firing on all cylinders.
